Bluewater fly fishing

I guide free-lance with several boats and on various islands in the Seychelles. I have selected local skippers for their skill and knowledge. It all started in June 1999, with skipper Pierre d’Offay of Bigarade based on Praslin. Our team, with angler Gilberto Zavala from Buenos Aires, was the first one to land a sailfish on fly in the Seychelles.

I provide all (hookless) teasers and "panama" belly strips. The main target is sailfish but many other species can be caught with the teasing method: wahoo, tuna, barracuda, bonito, dorado, rainbow runner... Between June 1999 and May 2000, we raised 59 sailfish out of which 7 were landed. I strongly encourage catch and release for sailfish.

Mahe offers good sport for bluewater fishing. With its multiple neighbouring islands, Praslin offers most possibilities, even during the south-east monsoon (see "info - seasons").

The sea around Desroches island is teeming with tuna, bonito and wahoo, sometimes making trolling teasers for sailfish a bit difficult! With the drop-off being only 2 miles out, fishing starts a mere ten minutes after lifting the anchor. The resident big game boat Cookie Two, a Riviera 36’, has a qualified crew and they have basic knowledge of fly fishing.
